Convince Your Boss

Want to attend Open Source Summit North America 2017, but not sure how to bring it up with your boss? We've published a sample letter below to help make the process easier. See you in Los Angeles!

"Convince Your Boss" Letter

Dear {Name},

I'd like to attend the upcoming Open Source Summit North America Conference taking place September 11 - 14, 2017 in Los Angeles. I've researched many conferences - and this is THE conference to attend for developers, sysadmins, devops professionals, architects and community leadership professionals that want to expand their skills, solve technical issues with the best and brightest in the community and learn/collaborate within the Linux, container, cloud computing and open source ecosystems.

Over 2,000 of the most talented individuals in the industry gather together for this event  - it's like a pop-up think tank!

Here's how I envision my attendance at Open Source Summit North America 2017 strengthening our company:

  • Open Source Summit offers 200+ sessions divided into four main content areas: Linux, Cloud, Containers, and Community; 12 tracks across three days, plus mini-summits and tutorials on the fourth day that cover a wide range of technologies, use cases and implementations. These sessions include presentations, hands-on tutorials, deep-dive technical lectures, and visionary keynotes from industry leaders. Attending these sessions will allow me to build my knowledge and learn from other community members on best practices.

  • The infamous "hallway track" at Open Source Summit will allow me to meet the top technical minds in the ecosystem. I hope to meet others that might face the same challenges and problems I do so that we can work together to solve technical issues now and in the future. Creating strategic partnerships at the event could be very useful in the future when we encounter new challenges.

You can learn more about the conference here and view last year's keynotes and other videos here

If I register before July 30, the fee is only USD$950. Included in the registration fee is access to all Open Source Summit sessions and some co-located events (including the tutorials mentioned above), access to the sponsor technology showcase, hallway tracks and lounges, continental breakfast, morning and afternoon breaks. It also includes entrance to the evening events, including the Onsite Attendee Reception and Sponsor Showcase.

I would be happy to write a post-conference report detailing what I've learned, and recommend any changes we can implement to improve our practices.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I hope we can make this opportunity work.

Thanks,

{Your Name}
