Fun Facts about Lake TahoeThe water in Lake Tahoe is 99.994% pure, making it one of the purest lakes in the world. For comparison, commercially distilled water is 99.998% pure! A depth of 1,645 ft. in Crystal Bay makes Tahoe the second deepest lake in the USA, third deepest in North America and 11th deepest in the world.
If the Sears Tower was dropped into Lake Tahoe at its deepest point, the top would still be submerged by 195 ft. of water! Only 53,000 people live in Lake Tahoe year round, but about three million people visit Lake Tahoe each year. This is comparable with the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone National Parks. Ever been in two states at the same time? The California/Nevada state line carves a line thorugh Crystal Bay and you can swim or paddle from one state to the other in the summer time.
